๐Ÿง€ Experience the creamy, melt-in-your-mouth texture of this Cheesy Green Bean Casserole, a perfect comfort food side dish.
๐Ÿฅ” Topped with a crunchy fried onion layer, this casserole balances rich flavors and satisfying textures, ideal for holidays or everyday meals.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 25 minutes
  • Yield: Serves 6 or more 1x

Ingredients

Scale

4 cans (14.5 oz each) of drained French-cut green beans or fresh green beans cooked al dente

1 can (10.5 oz) of cream of mushroom soup

1 can (10.5 oz) of cream of celery soup

1 container (6 oz) of fried onions, divided

2 cups of shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided (about one 8 oz block)

1/4 teaspoon of kosher salt (adjust type and amount to taste)

Cooking spray, butter, or olive oil for greasing the baking dish

Optional additions: A splash of Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce, black pepper, red pepper flakes, chopped onions, or onion powder for extra flavor

Instructions

1-First Step: Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a baking dish using cooking spray, butter, or olive oil. This sets the stage for even cooking and prevents sticking.

2-Second Step: In a large bowl, gently mix the drained green beans, cream of mushroom soup, cream of celery soup, half of the fried onions, half of the shredded sharp cheddar cheese, and salt. Make sure everything blends well for that creamy base.

3-Third Step: Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly for uniform heating.

4-Fourth Step: Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese evenly on top, followed by the remaining fried onions for that crunchy topping we all love.

5-Fifth Step: Bake for one hour, turning the casserole dish halfway through to ensure an even golden-brown crust. Once done, let it cool for approximately 20 minutes before serving to let the flavors settle.

Notes

๐Ÿ•’ Using canned green beans speeds preparation; fresh green beans steamed or blanched offer fresher flavor.
๐Ÿง€ Add extra cheese or fried onions to enhance flavor and texture.
๐Ÿฒ Swap cream of mushroom or celery soup with cream of chicken soup or sour cream for variation.
