  • Total Time: 14 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients

– 1 tablespoon olive oil

– 12 ounces mild Mexican-style chicken sausage

– 1 large white onion

– 2 large sweet bell peppers

– ¼ cup water

– 1 lime

– 2 tablespoons cilantro

– Corn or flour tortillas

– shredded cheese

– sour cream

– pico de gallo

– salsa

– avocado

– guacamole

– jalapeños

– 1 teaspoon smoked paprika

– 1 teaspoon cumin

– ½ teaspoon chili powder

– ½ teaspoon powdered garlic

– ½ teaspoon oregano

– ½ teaspoon salt

– ½ teaspoon pepper

Instructions

1-Start by heating 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for 3 minutes until they soften and smell amazing. This step builds a solid base of flavor for your dish.

2-Next, toss in the thinly sliced bell peppers and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes. They should get tender but still have a nice crunch. Now, stir in the sliced chicken sausage, all the taco seasoning ingredients, and ¼ cup of water; sauté for an additional 3 minutes to blend those flavors.

3-Finally, squeeze the juice from 1 lime over the mixture and sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of chopped cilantro. Serve it up hot with warm tortillas or lettuce leaves, and add your favorite toppings like cheese or avocado. For a low-carb option, those lettuce wraps work wonders and keep things light.

Notes

🔥 Heat tortillas in a dry pan sprayed lightly with cooking spray on one side, flipping after 20-30 seconds to create golden spots and enhance flavor and texture
⏰ Pre-slice or use pre-chopped onions and peppers to save preparation time and get dinner on the table even faster
🥬 Lettuce leaves can be used as a low-carb alternative to tortillas for a lighter, fresh take on these fajitas
