Ingredients
– 1 cup (16 tablespoons; 226 grams) unsalted butter
– 3 and 1/2 cups (420 grams) confectioners’ sugar
– 1/2 cup (41 grams) unsweetened natural cocoa powder
– 3 tablespoons (45 milliliters) heavy cream or milk at room temperature
– 1/8 teaspoon salt
– 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
Instructions
1- Beat the unsalted butter on medium speed using a handheld or stand mixer fitted with a paddle or whisk attachment until creamy, about 2 minutes.
2- Add the confectioners’ sugar, cocoa powder, heavy cream, salt, and vanilla extract. Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, then increase to high speed and beat for 1 full minute.
3- If the frosting is too thin, add 1/4 cup more confectioners’ sugar or cocoa powder. If it’s too thick, add another tablespoon of cream. Taste and add another pinch of salt if desired.
4- Use immediately or store covered in the refrigerator for up to 1 week, or freeze for up to 3 months. After freezing, thaw in the refrigerator and beat for a few seconds to restore creaminess. Add a splash of cream or milk to thin if needed after refrigerating or thawing.
