🍫 Enjoy soft and buttery chocolate chip scones perfect for a delightful breakfast treat.
πŸ₯ These scones combine a tender texture with rich chocolate chips for a satisfying morning bite.

  • Total Time: 35-40 minutes

Ingredients

– 2 cups all-purpose flour

– ΒΌ cup granulated sugar

– 1 ΒΌ teaspoons baking powder

– ΒΌ teaspoon baking soda

– ΒΌ teaspoon salt

– Β½ cup unsalted butter, cold

– 1 cup dark chocolate chips

– ΒΎ cup buttermilk

– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

1-Preheat the oven: Start by preheating the oven to 400Β°F, then get your ingredients ready for a smooth process.

2-Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt to evenly mix the dry ingredients.

3-Prepare the butter: Grate the cold butter using a cheese grater or cut it into small cubes, then blend it into the flour mixture using a pastry cutter or two knives until it becomes crumbly.

4-Stir in chocolate chips: Stir in the chocolate chips to distribute them evenly without overmixing.

5-Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix the buttermilk and vanilla extract, then add this to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined; take care not to over mix to keep the scones tender.

6-Knead and shape dough: Lightly flour a clean surface and briefly knead the dough, then shape it into a circle that’s 1 Β½ inches thick.

7-Cut the dough: Cut the circle in half, and then cut each half into 4-5 wedges, depending on the size you want.

8-Prepare for baking: Place the wedges on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, brush the tops with buttermilk, and lightly sprinkle with sugar.

9-Bake the scones: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, then allow the scones to cool on a wire rack.

Notes

🧁 Use fresh baking powder (less than a year) and baking soda (less than six months) for proper rising.
❄️ Use cold or frozen butter to create a flaky texture by producing steam during baking.
⚠️ Avoid overworking the dough to prevent tough scones; mix until just combined.
