  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 3 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

4 thick slices slightly stale white bread

2 large eggs (or 3 small eggs)

1/4 cup milk

a pinch of salt

1/4 cup white sugar

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder

1 1/2 tablespoons butter for cooking

maple syrup for dipping (served as needed)

Instructions

1- First, prepare the egg mixture by whisking together 2 large eggs (or 3 small eggs), 1/4 cup milk, and a pinch of salt in a shallow bowl. Then, take your 4 thick slices of slightly stale white bread, remove the crusts, and cut each into 9 equal cubes, aiming for about 1 inch thick pieces to ensure even cooking.

2- Next, mix up the cinnamon sugar by combining 1/4 cup white sugar with 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon powder in a separate bowl. Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat and melt 1 1/2 tablespoons of butter without letting it brown.

3- Dip half of the bread cubes quickly into the egg mixture, shake off the excess, and add them to the pan. Sautรฉ for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring gently to brown all sides evenly.

4- Once cooked, toss the cubes in the cinnamon sugar mixture and place them on a plate. Repeat the process with the remaining bread cubes and the rest of the butter. Serve immediately with maple syrup for dipping, and you’re done in about 15 minutes total!
