Ingredients
1 1/2 lbs boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1 inch pieces
2 eggs, beaten
Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornstarch
Oil for frying
1 teaspoon vegetable oil
1 teaspoon minced fresh garlic
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup soy sauce (reduced sodium if possible)
2 tablespoons ketchup
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons rice vinegar
1 tablespoon toasted sesame oil
2 teaspoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons sesame seeds
2 tablespoons sliced green onions
Instructions
1-First, get your ingredients ready to make things go smoothly. Start by placing the eggs, salt, and pepper in a bowl and stir them together. Next, mix the flour and cornstarch in a shallow bowl or plate. Dip each piece of chicken into the egg mixture, then coat it in the flour mixture, and repeat for all the pieces.
2-Heat about 3 inches of oil in a deep pan until it reaches 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Add 7-8 pieces of chicken to the oil and fry them for 5 minutes or until they turn crispy and golden brown. Do this in batches if needed, then drain the chicken on paper towels to remove excess oil.
3-While the chicken cooks, prepare the sauce by combining honey, soy sauce, ketchup, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and cornstarch in a bowl. In a large pan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat, add the minced garlic, and cook for 30 seconds until it smells great. Pour in the honey sauce mixture, bring it to a simmer, and let it cook for 3-4 minutes until it thickens up.
4-Once the sauce is ready, add the crispy chicken to the pan and toss it around to coat every piece evenly. Sprinkle on the sesame seeds and sliced green onions right before serving. For the best results, enjoy this honey sesame chicken immediately over steamed rice or your favorite side.
