🍕 Discover how to make homemade pizza dough that is both crispy and packed with flavor.
🔥 This recipe is easy to follow and results in a perfect crust every time, ideal for delicious homemade pizzas.

  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 1 12-inch pizza 1x

Ingredients

Scale

2 to 2 ⅓ cups all-purpose flour or bread flour (250-295g)

1 packet instant yeast (2 ¼ teaspoons)

1 ½ teaspoons sugar

¾ teaspoon salt

to ¼ teaspoon garlic powder and/or dried basil leaves (optional)

2 tablespoons olive oil plus additional for coating and brushing

¾ cup warm water (175ml), ideally between 105-115F (40-46C)

Instructions

1-Gathering and Mixing Ingredients: First, in a large bowl, combine 1 cup (125g) of flour, instant yeast, sugar, salt, and optional garlic powder or dried basil. This mix sets the foundation for that flavorful dough. Next, add the 2 tablespoons of olive oil and ¾ cup (175ml) of warm water, then stir well with a wooden spoon until everything blends smoothly.

2-Gathering and Mixing Ingredients: Gradually mix in another 1 cup (125g) of flour, and if needed, add up to an additional ⅓ cup, stirring until the dough forms a cohesive, elastic ball that pulls away from the bowl sides. The dough should be slightly sticky but manageable, which makes it perfect for beginners. 3-Rising and Shaping the Dough: Once mixed, drizzle olive oil generously into a separate large clean bowl. Lightly dust your hands with flour, shape the dough into a ball, and roll it in the oil inside the bowl to coat it evenly. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm spot for 30 minutes or until doubled in size it’s that simple!

4-Rising and Shaping the Dough: While the dough rises, preheat the oven to 425F (215C). Once it’s ready, gently deflate the dough with your hands and transfer it to a lightly floured surface. Knead it briefly for 3 to 5 times until smooth, then shape it into a 12-inch circle using your hands or a rolling pin.

5-Rising and Shaping the Dough: Transfer the shaped dough to a parchment-lined pizza pan, pinch or fold the edges to form a crust, and brush the entire surface, including the crust, generously with olive oil. Use a fork to poke holes in the center to prevent bubbling. Finally, add your desired toppings and bake at 425F (215C) for 13 to 15 minutes, or until the toppings are golden and the crust is cooked. Slice and serve for a meal everyone will love.

Notes

🍞 Using all-purpose flour results in a softer crust, while bread flour creates a crispier exterior.
🧂 Instant yeast can be added directly; if substituting with active dry yeast, proof it first in warm water with sugar until foamy before mixing.
🌿 Adding garlic powder and dried basil to the dough enhances flavor; avoid oregano if you dislike it.
